Space Applications
Your partner in creating history
The space industry is currently undergoing a renaissance; a profound transformation into a more competitive environment as it enters the commercial era. Private companies can understand the wonderful challenges and rewards that space provides, so they are among the primary contributors to this dynamic. The recent focus areas are the production of telecommunications data (internet, GPS, etc.), terrestrial imaging (digital agriculture, smart cities, smart energy, etc.), climate observation, and the prevention of natural risks.
Ion Propulsion
When using xenon as a fuel for ion thrusters, significant fuel efficiency cuts a satellite's weight in half. Air Liquide’s teams have developed a global solution for the launch and testing of electric propulsion satellites, including flow control system, Xenon supply and filling service. We can also provide gas management devices, supply and services related to other gases such as Krypton, Helium, etc.
When using Xenon, electronic equipment onboard will be safe from any reactive byproducts.
Rocket Propulsion
Air Liquide has more than 40 years of experience in space launch pads infrastructures, with onsite services and operation at Kourou in French Guiana (for Europe) and gas supply for Tanegashima (Japan) and Cap Canaveral (US).
From ground operations, flight phases up to long term in orbit storage, Air Liquide’s solutions help you optimise your liquid propellant in order to increase your launcher performance. Our expertise ranges from design to series production. Cryogenic propellant tanks for Liquid Hydrogen, Oxygen and Methane tanks require proper design and integration of thermal insulation, propellant management devices, instrumentation etc.
-
More than 600 cryogenic propellant flight tanks delivered including insulation, internal PMDs, lines and instrumentation
-
Compatible with all cryogenic propellants (LH2, LOX, LCH4) and all the flight phases
Pressurisation
Helium is used as a pressurant for rocket engines to push the propellant towards the engine's combustion chamber during launch, making it vital to space applications. To reduce the size of storage tanks while increasing the mass of Helium available, Air Liquide has developed supercritical and superfluid Helium cryostats.
